Yesterday I mentioned Sammy Hagar’s song Give to Live and how it expressed some very basic truths about the Law of Attraction in a wonderfully simple way. I talked a little bit about giving, and how we can still give even if we don’t have a lot of extra money at the moment. Today, I’d like to cover another bit of truth in that song.
“If you want faith you just believe a little.”
What is faith? Ask ten people, and you’ll get two-dozen different answers. It is one of the simplest concepts in life, and at the same time one of the most elusive. The Bible tells us:
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” -Hebrews 11:1 (KJV)
That’s a great answer, and we could spend months if not years discussing the depth of meaning in it. Another way of saying it is, “Faith isn’t believing that God can, it’s knowing that He will.” I really like that one too, and it cuts straight to the essence of the Law of Attraction; KNOWING that what you are trying to attract is already yours and expecting it to come to you.
We are often warned when studying the law to avoid idle wishing. This is dreaming without knowing, desire without expectation. We can attract anything we want to be, do or have, but we must be able to get our minds into a place where we expect it. That is what faith is, and it is what I believe Jesus meant when He said, “What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them” (Mark 11:24, KJV).
I could talk about faith for…well, for the rest of my life. It’s such a huge thing, such a pivotal, central concept that I don’t think enough could ever be said. But the short and sweet version is, to me, faith is what the Law of Attraction is all about. It’s a framework for practicing faith in real life. It’s applied faith. It’s a way of taking the idea of believing that we receive what we ask for and actually making it happen. It’s a guide for how to do what Jesus told us to do. It’s the key that takes us from “I wish” to “I know.”
