Holliwell: The Law of Attraction

Many authors have written about natural laws that govern perception, reality and the power of mind and thoughts. Over the next several days, we will explore the various ways these writers have named and described these laws. This examination is merely a quick look at each of these laws, however. It is recommended that you study the books mentioned for yourself to gain a deeper understand of The Laws and how to apply them in your life.

Raymond Holliwell, in his book “Working With The Law,” proposed that there was one ultimate law, the Law of Mind, and that it was in reality synonymous with God. He then broke that one Law down into 11 component laws. One of these laws was Attraction, but instead of being the entirety of the law, it worked in conjunction with the other ten. Today we will continue our look at how Dr. Holliwell viewed The Laws by examining the third of the 11 components of this Law of Mind.

 Law of Attraction

The third Law mentioned in Raymond Holliwell’s book “Working With The Law” is the well-known Law of Attraction. Although it is probably the most widely known of The Laws, let’s take a quick look at it as presented in this book.

The Law of Attraction states that whatever thoughts and ideas are most prominent in your mind, whatever you think about often and with emotion, is brought into physical manifestation in your reality. This happens in part because of frequency or rate of vibration of both the thought and the thing manifested. As we have seen, all matter is energy. Everything has a certain frequency at which it vibrates. Thoughts too have frequency, and when the thoughts in our minds are in harmonious vibration with the thing we desire, we attract it to us.

While this means that through proper mental attitudes and awareness of what we think we are able to bring into manifestation anything we need or desire, most people make the mistake of spending the majority of their thoughts and emotions worrying about things they do not want. Instead of focusing on health and abundance, they worry about sickness and lack.

The key to proper understanding of the law can be found in one word: expectation. We may say we think about health and prosperity. We may have vision boards and visualization exercises about new homes, cars and all the other things we’d like to have. But no matter how many exercises you do, no matter how much time you spend daydreaming, if you actually EXPECT illness and lack, you’ll receive illness and lack. You have to reprogram your subconscious mind to truly expect the good you desire, and not just build daydreams about it.

One important aspect of reprogramming your mind to accept these new ideas is developing a sense of gratitude. A feeling of thankfulness for the things you already have can be directed toward the things you desire, making them all the more real. There is a fine line here that sometimes causes confusion, however. Do not take “expectation” to mean that you should think the thing you want will be yours some time down the road. We are to already believe that the thing we are seeking is ours, not that it will be ours at a point in the future. Thinking that way will leave it perpetually in the future. When we do our visualizations, we must feel we already possess the thing, and in our imagination experience the emotions we will feel when we hold it in our hands. Expectation comes in those off moments, when the thought crosses our minds. This is when we should take stock and notice, what are we expecting? What we want, or what we fear?
