Go Be Happy!

Happiness is the key to itself. (Photo credit: Rigor Mortisque)

There are hundreds and even thousands of books and websites out there telling you how you can have it all, how you can manifest your dreams and live the life you’ve always wanted. There are programs, systems and guides. They range from free to thousands of dollars. There are religious systems, secular systems, energy systems, mental systems and just about anything else you can imagine. But there is one thing they all have in common, and that is an emphasis on the importance of a positive state of mind. Or as the song says, don’t worry, be happy.

I come from the Christian tradition, so that is the mindset I approach things from and the “system” that I use, if you want to call it that. The same thing goes there, however.

“Let not your hearts be troubled.” (John 14:1)

“So don’t be afraid…” (Matthew 10:31)

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life…” (Matthew 6:25)

“Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” (Matthew 6:27)

“Do not worry about tomorrow…” (Matthew 6:34)

“Delight yourself in the Lord…” (Psalm 37:4)

“Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” (John 14:27)

There are many, many other examples, but those make the point. To experience life to the fullest, we must maintain a positive mindset. Being grateful for the blessings in our lives, enjoying the life we are given, not worrying about tomorrow but just taking each day on its own; these are the secrets to happiness. And happiness is the key to itself. Happiness brings more happiness.

Go play fetch with the dog, or drive the cat nuts with a laser pointer. Go have an ice cream cone. Go fly a kite or skip stones. Go ride a roller coaster or jump out of a plane. Whatever makes you feel alive, whatever gives you joy, as long as it is no harm to others, get to it! This doesn’t mean that you should avoid your obligations and just bum around. Do the work you are given, but whistle while you do it. Enjoy it. Know that it means you are alive and that every moment is an opportunity. Go be happy!
